Chat

Chat

Chat is where you talk to an agent. It is a screen of the Agents module; setting agents up, their runs, triggers, routing and budget are on the Agents page.

In the sidebar under Home → Chat. Needs the Agents module.

What you see

  • Your conversations on the left, newest first. Search them, rename them, or delete one and everything said in it. Each conversation has its own address you can come back to.
  • The conversation itself. Replies show as the agent wrote them, with its name and the time. A count shows how many tokens the conversation has used so far.
  • The message box at the foot, with the Agent picker (or General assistant, to use everything you can reach) and the Project picker (or No project).

Conversations started in Telegram can be read here and are carried on in Telegram.

What you can do

Start a new conversation

  1. Press New chat above the list of conversations.
  2. Pick an agent in the Agent picker, or leave it on General assistant.
  3. If the conversation is about one project, pick it in the Project picker; otherwise leave it on No project.
  4. Type your message and press Send, or Enter.

You can attach files to a message, or speak instead of typing: what you say is put in the box for you to check before sending (up to 10 minutes; nothing is kept). Recent and pinned prompts lets you reuse a prompt; Pin keeps one at the top.

While the agent works

  • You see each step as it happens. Stop ends the run after the step it is on.
  • A message you send while it works is answered in turn, once the current run finishes.
  • When the agent needs your OK, an Approval needed card shows in the conversation. Approve, decline (and say why, so it can do something else), or Always allow to approve and stop asking for that tool.

After a reply

  • Copy a message, or rate it Good answer or Not what I wanted.
  • Try again asks the same question again; go on asks it to carry on from where it stopped.
  • Rewind goes back to a message, and the next message carries on from there. Fork starts a new conversation from that point. The branch view shows how a conversation has branched.
  • Edit your last message.

Ask from anywhere

Type in quick search (Cmd-K or Ctrl-K) and choose Ask Max to open Chat with that question. See Search.

Who can do what

Chat uses the Agents module's permissions. You need agents:read (View agents and their runs) to open Chat, and agents:write (Create and run agents) to start conversations and send messages. Everything an agent does is limited to what the person it acts for may do. The full list is on the Agents page.
