Contabo
Contabo
Contabo shows what your Contabo accounts run, read straight from Contabo. You can see servers, snapshots, firewalls, private networks, extra IPs and object storage. With an account set to read and write you can also power servers, take and revert snapshots, and change the network (module contabo).
In the sidebar under Servers & apps → Contabo. Needs: Services. Handles secrets: the module holds each account's API login, so every change an agent makes here goes to a person first.
An account set to read only lets you see everything. Acting on a server needs an account set to read and write.
Every Contabo server is also written onto Services with its monthly price. Each month a draft Contabo bill is made in Bills.
Overview
The servers across your accounts at a glance: how many are running, stopped, busy or in trouble, and how many firewalls and extra IPs there are. Below that is what needs attention, such as a stopped server, an error, or a cancelled server and the day Contabo ends it. When all is well it says Nothing needs attention. Press Refresh to read Contabo again.
Servers
Your VPS, VDS and dedicated servers: status, product, region, addresses, size and operating system.
- Start, Restart, Shut down (asks the system to stop cleanly) or Stop (pulls the plug; unsaved data may be lost). A server that may run Max itself is marked This server may run Max itself.
- Rename a server. The name changes at Contabo, on the server list and on its Services entry.
- What each server costs: each month's price, and how it is split between the projects the server serves. The split is even unless a different one is chosen on the Infrastructure map. The same split goes on the monthly draft bill.
Snapshots
Every server's snapshots, with when each was taken and when Contabo deletes it by itself.
- Take a snapshot: pick the server, give a name of up to 30 characters. Contabo keeps only a few per server.
- Revert: puts the server back as it was. Everything written since is lost, and every newer snapshot is deleted.
- Delete: removes a snapshot. It cannot be got back.
Network
- Firewalls: each firewall's inbound rules and the servers behind it. Contabo firewalls only filter what comes in. You can add or remove rules, put a server behind a firewall, or take it out.
- Private networks: servers that reach each other without the public internet. You can add a server or take it out. Contabo may restart the server to do it.
- Extra IPs: additional and floating addresses, and the server each points at. You can point one at a server or take it off.
Storage
Object storage at Contabo and how full it is. Max never reads its keys.
Activity
Contabo's own record of who changed what, through the Contabo panel or its API. Pick Which history (servers, or start/stop/restart actions) and How far back. Sensitive values show as •••.
Accounts
The Contabo API logins connected to Max. Each shows whose account it is, who it is shared with, read only or read and write, whether the login still works, its billing currency, and the month's draft bill.
- Click Connect account.
- Enter a name and the API login made in the Contabo panel. Choose read only or read and write.
- Save. Max checks the login at once.
You can rename an account, replace its login, check it again, share it with other people, draft the month's bill, or remove it.
Who can do what
| Permission | Lets you |
|---|---|
contabo:read | See Contabo servers, snapshots, images, firewalls, private networks, extra IPs, the names of saved SSH keys and passwords, tags, object storage and the account's change history |
contabo:write | Connect Contabo accounts; start, stop, restart and shut down servers; take, revert and delete snapshots; change firewall rules; move servers in and out of firewalls, private networks and extra IPs; share accounts; draft the month's Contabo bill |
See People, roles and permissions.
What happens on its own
| Job | When | What it does |
|---|---|---|
account-health | Every 30 minutes | Checks every active account's login and records whether it still works. |
monthly-bill | Every day at 06:15 | Drafts the month's Contabo bill for each working account that has none yet. In practice this is the first day of the month, or the first morning after an account is connected. A month already drafted is left alone. Nothing is posted until a person opens the bill. |
Needs
- Services must be switched on. Each server is filed there with its price.
- The draft bill lands in Bills.
What agents can do
Changes by an agent always go to a person first, because the module holds secrets. Every change also needs an account set to read and write. See Agents and approvals.
